Soundfonts Page

Here are two Soundfonts, the 'English Organ', and 'Cinema Organ'. The first contains the sounds or virtual pipework for a 'straight' or classical pipe organ of up to about 50 stops. The other, which comes in two versions, those of a Cinema or Theatre organ. They are all in the popular sf.2 format used by several software synthesisers including Fluidsynth the Sound Blaster Live/Audigy family of sound cards .

Once installed the Soundfonts with a suitable synthesiser can be played live from any midi-equipped keyboard or console, or even, after a fashion, from your computer keyboard or screen. A midi file can be played via your computer sequencer, or in Windows Media player with no extra software.

Apart from some of the percussion sounds, these soundfonts are totally original, the component sound samples having been created in software, mostly in 'Klangsynth'. This allows the amplitude and frequency envelope of each harmonic to be individually controlled over the sample period. It is possible to produce very realistic sounds which include amplitude and frequency starting transients, out-of-tune 'harmonics', tremulant effects and wind noise. I have done this because I don't have the means of making samples from real organ pipes, because it's an interesting challenge, and because this way it's possible to create and voice organ 'pipes' to suit my personal preferences, and I hope, yours.
There are several utility programmes which may be useful - for details and sources see the Utilities page.

If you are using Cakewalk or Sonar, please read the note at the bottom of the Utilities page.

The Soundfont downloads are compressed zipped self-extracting files. To decompress and obtain the underlying .sf2 file, unzip the download file, then double-click the .exe file.

If installing in a hardware or card synth remove any previous soundfont versions in banks 20, 26 and 27 before installing new ones. For softsynths install in the synth, for Fluidsynth install via Fluidsynth Properties in jOrgan.

These Soundfonts and the included Samples are Copyright. You are welcome to use them free of charge for your own personal non-commercial purposes.

The English Organ

This Soundfont includes single stops and combination sounds. Install in bank 20. It can be used with just a Midi-cable or with jOrgan virtual console. jOrgan uses only the single stops in the soundfont and provides combinations through its console interface which connects your keyboard or MIDI console to the soundfont sounds. Specimen Dispostion files, (which define a console layout), screen-shots and other details are on the Midi Consoles page.

Cinema Organ

The 'Wurlitzer' (corg_w) and Compton (corg_c) versions contain the pipe ranks only, i.e. all the pipes are there but only at 8ft pitch, also percussion and effects sounds. They are intended mainly mainly for use with jOrgan virtual organ console which provides the extended and unified stops.
For more information on jOrgan, download links, screen-shots and specimen Dispostion files, which define the organ configuration and console layout for the various types of organ, go to the Midi Consoles page.
For compatibility with the speciment disposition files, install the Wurlitzer soundfont in bank 26, the Compton soundfont in bank 27. Lists of pipe ranks and traps in the soundfonts (Patch Lists) are below.

Patch List for corg_c to follow. (Not accessible)

A smaller version of the corg_w soundfont is included in the Miditzer downloads. It comes ready loaded in a software synthesiser (Fluidsynth), also included. Optionally Miditzer can be configured to use the other soundfonts within the limitations set by the fixed console layouts.
See the Miditzer website.
